We woke up this morning at 5am to get ready for Natalie's big day. She was heading to the surgery center for a 5 min procedure. She hadn't a care in the world...she was happy to wake up, get dressed, brush her teeth and head out the door (maybe I should wake her up at 5am everyday!). She did a good job waiting in the waiting room. She brought along her own stethoscope and Cinderella to serve as her patient.
Then her name was called and went in to weigh her and check her height. she got to change into a Looney Tunes gown. She DID not like the gown, it was itchy and we had to convince her it was a princess robe to get her to keep it on.
Then the vitals and cords were getting hooked up, she started to realize this was more then a doctors appointment. She was strong but getting more frustrated. Then Nurse Lisa cam over with her Chap stick tin. This saved the day! Natalie got to open and smell about 15 chap sticks and choose one to use for the anesthesia mask. I guess the kids don't like the plastic smell so they trick them with chap stick. This is a great plan for Natalie considering anything and all things involving chap stick is a great thing indeed!
She select a pink tube flavored Cotton candy. I would have selected the Hershey tube.
Then it came...it was time. Nurse Lisa brought her out a warm blanket and wrapped her real tight (coincidence?) and said give mommy and daddy kisses it is time for them to wait outside. Her face drained of all happiness and her eyes began to search around as if she heard wrong. I kissed, and tears came to my eyes because I new she was scared...I looked away, not wanting to frighten her more. Ben kissed her and away we went.
Not 15 minutes went by and they called us back into recovery. She was waking up and crying and throwing her head and arms all around. All normal the nurses said...OKAY......Ben was to hold her in the recliner with pillows all around so she wouldn't hurt herself. She would go from crying to sleeping, complaining all about her ears and the stickers on her feet and the blood pressure cuff....once she was mostly awake the nurse offered her a Popsicle- A purple one? Natalie asked...
Then it got better fast. The nurse started taking stuff off and Natalie was comfortable in the chair. About 30 minutes later we were sent on our way...
She stayed pretty 'sleepy' for all of 45 minutes and then it was time for Sleeping Beauty dresses and a walk to the park and eating a huge plate of lunch! She sprang back awfully quick! healthy girl...
We'll see if these magical tubes do the trick...after 16 ear infections I can only hope to be ear infection free this holiday season.
